Above the South Tyrolean fruit and wine village of Marling, the charming 5-star Hotel
Giardino Marling
. All around you, the flowers bloom and the scent fills the air, and the breathtaking panoramic view down into the Adige Valley as far as Merano is almost endless. A hideaway for anyone looking for peace and quiet.
The hotel
In the middle of it all, surrounded by apple orchards, vineyards and a large, well-tended garden, lies the tranquil, family-run 5-star Hotel Giardino Marling. From the bright lobby, restaurant and spa to the cozy and stylish rooms and suites, the entire hotel was completely redesigned in 2016. What has remained is the heart of the hotel, hostess Ulrike Spögler, who with her team ensures a tasteful feel-good ambience and presents her guests with a “Mediterranean lifestyle in the heart of the Alps”. With great attention to detail, the hotel manager has her retreat planted with white roses, hydrangeas, lavender and ivy and personally takes care of the flower arrangements throughout the hotel. A special feast for the eyes are the meter-high wisteria that climb up the façade in front of the restaurant and bloom magnificently in spring.
All rooms and suites have wide balconies and offer a fantastic view as far as Merano on the valley side. The rooms are bright, sunny and flooded with light. Fine materials and wooden floors provide understated luxury and exude warmth and a sense of well-being. Large, elegant bathrooms round off the harmonious ambience.
The restaurant
“It tastes like happiness at the Giardino”
a guest once whispered in the ear of hostess Ulrike Spögler. Chef Siegfried Zelger has been ensuring that this remains the case for over 20 years. The flavors of South Tyrol are particularly close to his heart and his curiosity gets the better of him when it comes to combining the new with the tried and tested. The Giardino restaurant uses mainly selected local products, where Zelger creates traditional, hearty dishes as well as light, Mediterranean dishes.
Thanks to the mild temperatures, breakfast and dinner can be served on the sunny terrace on an average of 180 days a year – so it’s no wonder that not only wine and apples thrive here in South Tyrol, but also palm trees and many other southern plants.
Body & Soul
There are two outdoor pools with comfortable loungers for sunbathing and relaxing. The absolute highlight is the new Sky Spa on the third floor. Spacious saunas and relaxation rooms with far-reaching views of the mountains opposite and down into the valley offer a refuge for undisturbed relaxation. A wide range of massages, wraps, baths and cosmetic treatments are offered here.
The 14 x six meter pool on the roof of the Giardino Marling is absolutely sensational, giving you the feeling of floating above the Merano countryside.
Further activities
Scattered throughout the hotel and in the garden are many atmospheric places to pause and reflect – throughout the year, various seminars provide inspiration for body, mind and soul. Soothing offers in a light-flooded exercise room and Technogym equipment in the fitness room complement the variety of outdoor activities already available, such as hiking on the Waalen trails, Nordic walking or mountain biking. This makes the Giardino Marling a place of mindfulness and discovery. Deceleration deluxe.
If you want to get out and about, you should hike along the Marlinger Waalweg. Along a narrow irrigation canal not far from the hotel, it runs for a total of twelve kilometers through orchards, vineyards and deciduous forests from Töll to Oberlana.
The gardens of Trauttmannsdorf Castle, where Empress Sissi preferred to reside in winter, are also open every year until mid-November. 80 different landscapes lead through all vegetation zones on a total of twelve hectares in one of the most beautiful parks in the world. While the trees are in leaf, 30,000 tulips, daffodils and magnolias are in bloom. Rhododendrons, English roses and oleanders follow later. Special features include the palm-lined beach with a Caribbean feel, cycling peacocks and, at sunset, Matteo Thun’s Gucker, where visitors float down steps to a viewing platform that is 95 percent transparent.
