The elegant bed linen is made of silk and cotton. The view of the city wall, sea and harbor of Palma de Mallorca is a dream. And the roof terrace is considered one of the coolest spots in the center of the Balearic metropolis. The list could go on and on, because there is no shortage of remarkable things to do at the five-star hotel Es Príncep. Another highlight was added in mid-August 2021. Mallorca’s “two-star chef” Fernando P. Arellano has moved into Es Príncep with his “Zaranda”. He wants to stay there for ten years. This is what the native of Madrid, born in 1978, has decided to do.
The beautiful woman next door
The hotel has 68 rooms and suites as well as the Cocô spa area with saunas, 18-meter indoor pool and hammam, a reference to the Arabs who ruled Mallorca and the neighboring islands for over 300 years (902 to 1229). In any case, the “casco antiguo”, the old town, tells many a beautiful story. And sometimes time seems to have stood still there. For example, when you hear the clatter of hooves in the winding streets and a carriage bends around the narrow corners. When a cheerful street sweeper cleans the streets with a broom and muscle power. Or suddenly, hidden in the labyrinth of the historic center, the portal of the Santa Clara monastery from the 13th century appears. The convent has claimed its place not far from its venerable neighbor, the Gothic cathedral La Seu. Surrounded by luxury hotels, stores and artists’ studios, it exudes a wondrous magic.
Visitors do not get to see the nuns of the cloistered order. The Poor Clares offer bread, cookies and other sweet pastries for sale, homemade in the good nuns’ style. But money and baked goods change hands via a flap in the masonry with a revolving shelf behind it. This way, the ladies themselves remain invisible.
Parking for professionals
The sometimes very narrow streets in the heart of Palma are charming, but don’t make parking easy. The one-way street system and strict access and stopping restrictions do the rest. Real luxury: Es Príncep has its own underground parking garage. Simply drive up to the hotel, hand your car keys to the very courteous valet, and you’re done. You could easily get used to it …
Shopping & sunbathing
You don’t need a car in the city anyway. The two shopping streets Paseo del Borne and Avenida Jaime III are just a stroll away from the hotel. Just like Palma’s lively market halls, galleries, museums, restaurants… Two-wheeled enthusiasts can also hire a bike or e-scooter directly from the hotel and explore the surrounding area. Palma’s city beach is almost on the doorstep. And for those who are only planning a city trip: Mallorca’s Son Sant Joan airport can be reached in around 15 minutes. Although: Palma is actually far too beautiful for a short stay. Once you’re there, you don’t want to leave so quickly …
The Hotel Es Príncep belongs to the small hotel chain Mon Hotels with three hotels on Mallorca: in Palma, Peguera and Port d’Andratx.
Es Príncep is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World.
